Notes
Discoverer(s): Richard E. Furzer, together with Dr. W. Warne of the Rhodesian Department of Agriculture, January 12. 1969 (rediscovered by Trevor Wood et al. in Moçambique in 1999). Status specie: accepted by all authors. In captivity : Species with a long natural incubation period (7 months or more). Embryonated eggs have been observed only one month after spawning if they are maintained on the spawning substrate. Probably the same thing happens in nature if the ponds contain a lot of water and due to the great speed with which they reach sexual maturity. Very fast-growing and short-lived species. Females also have a relatively short spawning period, emptying themselves of eggs and making it difficult for them to refill. Standard captive maintenance with some particularities. Variability: hight
