Code MZCS (MoZambique, CzechoSlovak Expedition) 2009 The scientific expedition of Czech Academy of Sciences (Matej Polacik, Peter Vallo, Radim Blazek) in February 2009 followed our field trip in 2008. We have imported three populations of N. orthonotus and 4 populations from N. rachovii complex. Some fish and eggs were donated to killifish breeders in 2009 and appeared to establish in captivity. All photographs are copyrighted to Radim Blazek. Submitted by Martin Reichard, two more collecting trips to Mozambique are planned for the fist part of 2010.

Habitat MZCS 08/91, type locality of N. kadleci photographed in February 2009. No fish were present, though they inhabited adjacent water-filled hole at a road margin. Note that type locality looked similar in February 2008 when N. kadleci was collected t N. kadleci MZCS 08/109 male with a frontal hump, typical for some populations of the species (including N. kadleci MZCS 08/108 Save River that are kept by some breeders). Red and blue males N. kadleci MZCS 08/109 male with a frontal hump, typical for some populations of the species (including N. kadleci MZCS 08/108 Save River that are kept by some breeders). Red and blue males N. furzeri MZCS 08/13, yellow male without black band on caudal fin N. orthonotus MZCS 08/108, just north of the River Save, in the range of N. kadleci. One of few populations with yellow coloured males N. furzeri MZCS 08/43, red male with the black band on caudal fin
The following pictures show fish collected (among many others), but not imported in 2008

LIST OF IMPORTED POPULATIONS, WITH THEIR CODES: N. rachovii MZCS 233 Rio Savane (road from Beira towards Rio Savane, about 7 km before Rio Savane). Black type rachovii, showing some similarities to blue Beira type (possessing blue colour, but unlike typical blue rachovii it lacks orange colour altogether) fish that inhabit sites less than 20 km apart. N. orthonotus MZCS 233 Rio Savane (road from Beira towards Rio Savane, about 7 km before Rio Savane). N. rachovii MZCS 249 Quelimane, orange type (less than 5 km from the Quelimane town). Fish were heavily parasitized when collected N. orthonotus MZCS 249 Quelimane (less than 5 km from the Quelimane town). Fish were heavily parasitized when collected N. rachovii MZCS 260 Luala, orange type (about 60 km after ferry across the Zambezi River towards Quelimane, near the Luala River). N. orthonotus MZCS 260 Luala (about 60 km after ferry across the Zambezi River towards Quelimane, near the Luala River). N. rachovii MZCS 08/1 lower Limpopo, black type (30 km north after crossing the Limpopo River bridge towards Mabalane), site already visited in 2008, but live fish imported in 2009
