General Overview
The Republic of the Congo, located in Central Africa along the equator, features a humid
equatorial climate in most of its territory, with slight regional variations.
1. Northern Zone – Humid Equatorial Climate
Precipitation: 1,600–2,000 mm annually, distributed throughout the year.
Temperatures: Constant, between 24–27°C.
Characteristics: Dense tropical rainforest, high humidity, and no clearly defined
dry season.
2. Central and Western Zone – Equatorial Climate with
Short Dry Season
Precipitation: 1,200–1,800 mm per year.
Temperatures: Between 25–28°C.
Characteristics: Two rainy seasons (March–May and September–November) and
two short dry periods. Landscape includes both savanna and forest areas.
3. Southern Zone (Niari region and coastal area) –
Tropical Savanna Climate
Precipitation: 900–1,200 mm annually.
Temperatures: Slightly higher, ranging from 26–30°C.
Characteristics: A more extended dry season (June–September), with vegetation
transitioning between savanna and dry forest.
Climate Seasons
Rainy season: Mainly from October to May, with precipitation peaks between
March–April and October–November.
Dry season: From June to September, especially noticeable in southern and
coastal regions.
